Short answer

Secure It Password Manager is built for people who want their encrypted vault in their own Google Drive instead of on a vendor's servers, and who would rather pay once than subscribe. Secure It is a zero-knowledge password manager that stores your encrypted vault in your own Google Drive: no company servers, not even ours.

That is the real difference between the two. Bitwarden keeps your vault on Bitwarden's cloud (or on a server you run yourself). Secure It keeps it in a single encrypted file in your Google Drive, and the pricing follows from that: a one-time purchase of US$4.99 (local prices vary by country on Google Play), with the Windows app and Chrome extension included. There is no subscription and no company-run vault server to trust, breach or shut down.

Bitwarden is a strong product, and we say where it wins further down. If your priorities are where the vault lives and how you pay, Secure It is designed around exactly those two things.

Where your data lives

This is the core difference, and it is architectural rather than a matter of features.

With Bitwarden's hosted service, your encrypted vault sits on Bitwarden's infrastructure. It is encrypted before upload, so Bitwarden cannot read it, but the company still stores and serves it. You can avoid that by self-hosting, but Bitwarden's guide lists a Linux server with Docker, 2 GB of RAM minimum, a domain name and open ports 80 and 443. That is a real ongoing job.

With Secure It, there is nothing to host and no one to trust with storage. Sync uses a single encrypted file in your own Google Drive, through the narrow drive.file scope. We run no servers for user data. The vault is encrypted on your device with Argon2id and AES-256-GCM before it goes anywhere, so Google sees only an encrypted file.

In short: Bitwarden asks you to trust its cloud or run your own server. Secure It uses storage you already own, without a server to run.

Price

Bitwarden's current official prices (as of 15 Oct 2026, billed annually, excluding tax): Free at $0, Premium at $19.80 per year ($1.65/month), and Families at $47.88 per year for up to six users. The free tier covers core password management with unlimited devices and passwords. Premium adds the built-in TOTP authenticator, emergency access, 5 GB of file storage and vault health reports.

Secure It is a one-time purchase of US$4.99; local prices vary by country on Google Play. The Windows app and Chrome extension are unlocked by that purchase. There is no free tier and no recurring fee.

The maths is simple. Bitwarden Premium costs $19.80 a year, so over five years it is $99. Secure It's single purchase stays at $4.99. Bitwarden's free tier costs nothing, though, so if free is enough for you, it is the cheaper option. Our advantage is against paid subscriptions, not against free.

Android is currently in closed testing, so the Play purchase is not yet open to everyone. See pricing and download for the current status.

Choose Secure It if…

  • You don't want a vendor holding your vault. Your encrypted file lives in your own Google Drive, and no company server, ours included, stores it.
  • You want to pay once. US$4.99 once, with Android, Windows and the Chrome extension covered by the one purchase.
  • You use Android and Windows. You get both apps plus the browser extension (Brave and Opera too) without a second subscription.
  • You want modern, named crypto. Argon2id key derivation and AES-256-GCM, with a 12-word recovery phrase and an offline Emergency Kit.
  • You came from KeePass and dislike the sync plugins. Drive sync works without extra setup.
  • You read your password manager in your own language. The app supports 12 languages.

Choose Bitwarden if…

We would rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one, so here is where Bitwarden is the better fit today:

  • You need iOS. Secure It has no iOS app.
  • You require an independent audit. Bitwarden publishes several third-party audits. Secure It has none yet.
  • You require open source. Bitwarden's code is on GitHub. We don't currently present Secure It as open source.
  • You want a free tier. Bitwarden's is capable. Secure It has none.
  • You don't want a Google account. Secure It's sync needs one, because the vault file lives in your Google Drive.
  • You share with family or a team. Bitwarden has Families and organization plans.
  • You want to self-host. Bitwarden supports it.
  • You're not comfortable with a small, independent developer. Secure It is built by one developer, not a large security company.

Moving from Bitwarden

Bitwarden lets you export your vault from its web app, desktop app or CLI, and you should keep that export somewhere safe and delete it after use, because it contains your passwords. We will publish a step-by-step import guide for Secure It once we have verified the import format end to end. Until then, check the FAQ for the current status rather than relying on a guess.

Keep your Bitwarden vault until you have checked that every item arrived in the new app.
