Short answer

Secure It Password Manager is the choice if you want to pay once and keep your encrypted vault in your own Google Drive. It is a one-time purchase of US$4.99 (local prices vary by country on Google Play), and the same purchase covers Android, the Windows app and the Chrome extension. 1Password is a mature subscription service with family sharing and an iOS app, and it is the better fit if you need those today.

Secure It is a zero-knowledge password manager that stores your encrypted vault in your own Google Drive: no company servers, not even ours. I'm the developer, so read this page with that in mind. I've checked every 1Password claim against its own pages, and I say plainly where it is ahead of us.

Timing note: the Android app is in closed testing on Google Play and can't be bought by the public yet. The Windows app and Chrome extension are live, but they are unlocked by the Play purchase.

What Secure It gives you

Secure It was built around two ideas: your passwords should not sit on a vendor's servers, and a password manager should not be a bill that comes back every year.

  • Your vault, your Drive. The vault is one encrypted file (vault.enc) in your own Google Drive. We use the narrow drive.file scope, and we run no servers for user data. See why a vault in Drive can be safe.
  • Encrypted before it leaves your device. The key comes from your master password with Argon2id, and the vault is encrypted with AES-256-GCM on the device. Argon2id is the algorithm OWASP recommends first for password hashing.
  • Works without an account on one device. A vault runs fully offline without any sign-in. A Google account is needed only to sync the same vault across devices.
  • Pay once. There is no renewal date, so there is nothing to forget, cancel or watch for a price rise. Details are on the pricing page.
  • One purchase, three places. Android, the free Windows app from the Microsoft Store, and the Chrome extension (which also installs in Brave, Opera and, until our Edge listing is approved, Edge).
  • Everyday features. Fingerprint or master-password unlock, a password generator, categories and search, one-tap copy, and import of saved passwords from Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and Firefox.
  • Recovery you control. A 12-word recovery phrase, plus an Emergency Kit PDF with an offline recovery script.
  • 12 languages: English, Arabic, German, Spanish, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish and Chinese.
  • Sharing one entry. You can share a single entry as an encrypted copy in your Google Drive, with a link that expires (15 minutes to 7 days) and an optional passphrase.

What 1Password is

1Password is a long-established, subscription-based password manager. Its pages list apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android and ChromeOS, plus browser extensions and a command-line tool. It is a good product, and for many people it is the safe default.

Its security model uses an account password combined with a Secret Key that 1Password says it never stores (1Password security). Its support pages say data is protected with AES-GCM-256 and that PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 is used for key derivation (1Password support).

What you pay over 3 and 5 years

Prices from 1Password's pricing page on 18 Oct 2026, in US dollars before tax. The page also shows a first-year promotion ($2.99/month billed yearly) for new customers who buy directly from 1Password.com, with the regular $3.99/month after that. Prices can change, so check the page before you decide.

Year 1 3 years 5 years
Secure It (one-time) $4.99 $4.99 $4.99
1Password Individual, with first-year promo $35.88 $131.64 $227.40
1Password Individual, regular price $47.88 $143.64 $239.40
1Password Families (up to 5), with promo $53.88 $197.64 $341.40

The arithmetic: Individual regular is $3.99 × 12 = $47.88 a year. With the promotion, year one is $2.99 × 12 = $35.88, then $47.88 for each later year, so 3 years is $35.88 + 2 × $47.88 = $131.64. Families is $5.99/month regular and $4.49/month with promotion: year one is $53.88, then $71.88 a year.

Two caveats. The Secure It figure covers one person's purchase; we have no family plan, so the Families row is not a like-for-like comparison. And Android can't be bought yet while it is in closed testing.

Where 1Password is better

  • Independent scrutiny. 1Password publishes named assessments (for example by Independent Security Evaluators and Onica), holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO certifications, and runs a bug bounty on HackerOne (1Password security assessments). Secure It has no independent third-party audit yet.
  • iOS and more platforms. 1Password supports Mac, Linux and iOS today. Our iOS app is coming soon, with no date.
  • Family and team sharing. Shared vaults for up to five people on Families, and business plans. We offer expiring-link sharing of single entries, not shared vaults.
  • Track record and support. It is a large company with a long history. I'm one independent developer.
  • No Google account needed for sync. Our multi-device sync goes through Google Drive, so it needs a Google account. 1Password uses its own account.

Choose Secure It if…

  • You want to pay once and not think about renewals.
  • You want your encrypted vault in your own Google Drive rather than on a vendor's servers.
  • You use Android and Windows, plus Chrome or another Chromium browser.
  • You like modern, named cryptography you can check: Argon2id and AES-256-GCM. Our security page has the details.
  • You want a simple app in your own language, from a developer who answers email.

Choose 1Password if…

  • You need iOS, Mac or Linux apps now.
  • You want shared family or team vaults.
  • A formal audit and certifications are a requirement for you or your employer.
  • You don't mind a subscription and prefer a vendor to run the sync.

If your main concern is price and open source, Bitwarden is also worth a look. Our no-subscription guide compares the wider field.

Honest limits of Secure It

  • It is not independently audited yet.
  • Using the vault on several devices needs a Google account. Without one, the vault stays on a single device.
  • There is no iOS app yet (coming soon, no date).
  • Android is in closed testing, and our Edge listing is still in review.
  • I'm a small independent developer, not a large security company.

If any of these is a deal-breaker, 1Password or Bitwarden is the safer pick today. If they aren't, a one-time US$4.99 and a vault that stays in your own Drive is hard to beat on simplicity.
